Biogeochemical Cycles of Trace Elements and Implications for Marine Ecosystems
The goal of this session is to bring together oceanographers interested in:
- The marine biogeochemical cycles of trace elements and their isotopes,
- Interactions between trace elements and marine organisms,
- Implications of these interactions for marine ecosystem structure,
- Implications for ocean cycles of carbon and nutrients,
- Tracers of ocean circulation on time scales not amenable to direct observation,
- Trace elements as recorders of past ocean conditions (paleo proxies), and
- Tracers of contaminant dispersion in the ocean.
These topics represent the intersecting interests of several ongoing and emerging ocean research programs, including IMBER, SOLAS, GEOTRACES and IMAGES. The meeting will serve as a venue for exploring future developments within these programs, including possible collaboration on research projects.
