Generation and Assimilation of Coastal Data Streams

Significant advances in both observing and assimilation capabilities for coastal waters have been made in recent years. We are now beginning to see evidence that the type of assimilation methods applied can influence the choice of what data to collect and, conversely, for a given suite of observations, a particular class of assimilation methods may be preferred. This session spans biological, chemical, and physical oceanographic parameters and includes novel observational approaches such as AUVs and new remote sensing capabilities as well as advanced data assimilation methods geared for coastal and estuarine regions. Our goal is to foster international interdisciplinary collaboration and enhancement of our collective ability to observe and forecast the coastal ocean.
