The Oceanography Society (TOS) was founded in 1988 to disseminate knowledge of oceanography and its application through research and education, to promote communication among oceanographers, and to provide a constituency for consensus-building across all the disciplines of the field.

The membership period is October 1 through September 30 of each year. Full membership is due upon joining. All members are entitled to exercise the rights and responsibilities of active participation in the Society, including the right to vote. All members receive the Society's quarterly magazine Oceanography. Upon payment, members will receive all back issues of the magazine to which they are entitled for that membership period. All applications for membership are subject to approval by the Society's Membership Committee.

TOS MEMBERSHIP

REGULAR MEMBERSHIP | Available to oceanographers, scientists, or engineers active in ocean-related fields, or to persons who have advanced oceanography by management or other public service. [$60]

STUDENT MEMBERSHIP | With proper certification, student membership is available for students enrolled at least half-time in an oceanography or ocean-related program at the baccalaureate or higher level. [$30]

SPONSORING MEMBERSHIP | Available to individuals who wish to provide enhanced support annually. In the US, $50 of the annual dues in this category is tax-deductible as a charitable contribution, as are any additional contributions, over and above the annual regular membership dues. [$110]

OCEANOGRAPHY MAGAZINE

LIBRARY SUBSCRIPTIONS | Annual library subscriptions to Oceanography are also available. The subscription rate for Volume 23, Numbers 1–4 (January 1–December 31, 2010) is $175 USD (shipping included). Please send a check for this amount as well as the library's complete mailing address to the address at the bottom of the page. [$175]

INDIVIDUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS | We encourage membership in TOS, however, we realize that not everyone wishing to receive Oceanography magazine will meet TOS membership criteria.
