• Regular membership is available to oceanographers, scientists or engineers active in ocean-related fields, or to persons who have advanced oceanography by management or other public service.
  
  
• With proper certification, Student membership is available for students enrolled at least half-time in an oceanography or ocean-related program at the baccalaureate or higher level.
  
  
• Sponsoring membership is available to individuals who wish to provide enhanced support annually. In the U.S., $50 of the annual dues in this category is tax-deductible as a charitable contribution, as are any additional contributions, over and above the annual Regular Member dues.
  
  
• Organizations and companies may participate annually as Corporate/Institutional Sponsors. Visit the Sponsors page for more information.
  
  
• Annual Library subscriptions to Oceanography are also available. Please send a check for $150 as well as the library's complete mailing address to the address at the bottom of the page.

The membership period is October 1 through September 30 of each year. The full membership is paid upon joining. All members are entitled to exercise the rights and responsibilities of active participation in the Society, including the vote. All members receive Oceanography. Upon payment, members will receive all back issues of the magazine to which they are entitled for that membership period. All applications for membership are subject to approval by the Membership Committee of the Society. To join, mail or fax the application with completed information and appropriate payment.

We encourage membership in TOS, however, we realize that not everyone wishing to receive Oceanography magazine will meet TOS membership criteria. Thus, annual subscriptions to the magazine are available. To subscribe, please mail or fax the completed Subscription Form (652 KB pdf) to The Oceanography Society.
