This cruise and a pre-cruise information short course will instruct early career marine scientists, including PhD students, on how to effectively plan for, acquire, utilize, and report on time at sea for multidisciplinary research and education. See entire announcement. Citizen Science Project Aims to Channel Ocean Temperature Data From Scuba Divers to Scientists. www.divers4oceanography.org is a newly established platform to collect scuba dive computer data in order to build long-running archives for temperature observations of the coastal ocean. The goal of the project is to aggregate temperature data from recreational, scientific, and technical divers all around the world and make these data available for download free of charge. We would like to hear from you—if such temperature data were available, how could you use it for your project? Data from which dive sites around would help your project the most? Do you have other questions or suggestions? Please write to Derya Akkaynak (divers4oceanography@gmail.com). 2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting: Session Nominations. Karl, professor of oceanography at the University of Hawai’i, Manoa, is the 2013 recipient of the Alexander Agassiz Medal, presented by the National Academy of Sciences. Dr. Karl is acknowledged for leadership in establishing multidisciplinary ocean-observing systems, for detection of decadal regime shifts in pelagic ecosystems, and for paradigm-shifting insights on biogeochemical cycles in the ocean. Established by a gift from Sir John Murray, the medal is presented every three years for original contributions in the science of oceanography and carries with it a prize of $15,000. Dr. Karl, along with recipients of 17 other awards covering a wide range of physical, biological and social science, will be honored in a ceremony on Sunday, April 28, during the Academy's 150th annual meeting. The Oceanography Society joins the ocean science community in congratulating Dr. Karl on receiving this honor. See entire annoucement. Job AnnouncementsLooking for job opportunities?
