FILMMAKING WORKSHOP—CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

An increasing number of ocean scientists are making short videos for their websites, blogs, and/or other outreach efforts. Scientist-turned-filmmaker Dr. Randy Olson—a panelist at the 2008 Ocean Sciences Meeting—and Dr. Jon Sharp, Co-Chair of the 2008 Ocean Sciences Meeting are planning a workshop on this topic for the 2010 Ocean Sciences Meeting. At the workshop, Randy will give a brief talk about filmmaking for scientists, then moderate a “critique session” where individuals will show their short films, offering them up for constructive analysis, as well as moderated comments from the audience. Do you have a brief video that you are willing to share with the workshop audience? Jon and Randy would like to to receive submissions from which they can select those to be highlighted at the Ocean Sciences meeting. As a first step, please contact Jon Sharp (jsharp@udel.edu) with your interest to participate and a short synopsis of your video. Submissions are due by January 31st. A full description of this workshop is available at: http://www.tos.org/Filmmaking_Workshop_OSM2010.pdf.
