Scholarship-for-Service Opportunities. The SMART (Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation) Program will pay for all educational expenses for a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program, and then provide scholars unique opportunities to work as research scientists or engineers on cutting edge technology in world class Department of Defense facilities. Sloan Research Fellowships in Ocean Sciences. Early-career researchers in the ocean sciences are now eligible for Sloan Research Fellowships. Eight awards of $50,000 will honor junior faculty who teach at U.S. and Canadian institutions for their creativity, promise, and independent accomplishments as ocean science researchers.
